Social Work Program
OAD's Social Work/Re-entry Program currently focuses on providing direct-service social work assistance to clients being released from prison. These services include assistance with housing, medical and mental health needs, employment and job training, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and obtaining government benefits.
In addition to this, the social work program provides institutional advocacy as needed, which includes visiting clients in upstate prisons, and collaborates with the legal practice in preparing clients for Parole Board appearances, and preparing relevant psychosocial materials for various court hearings. The social work program also created and hosts a bi-weekly Peer Empowerment Group in our office, encouraging mutual aid, support, and community advocacy in order to enhance services for our clients.
If you would like further information about the Social Work/Re-entry Program, please contact Nicole Rochat, Director of the Social Work/Re-entry Program, at 212-402-4125 or at nrochat@appellatedefender.org.
